Why a Doula?
Benefits of a Doula
It is a well known and well-documented* fact that a doula can positively influence birth outcomes. Having a doula at your birth can mean:
- A shorter labor
- a reduced likelihood of a cesarean section
- a reduced likelihood of epidural analgesia
- a reduced likelihood of pain medications of any kind
- a reduced likelihood of a forceps or vacuum assisted birth
- an increased likelihood of a childbirth experience that you would rate as satisfying or positive
Whatever your goals for birth -- natural or medicated -- a doula can be instrumental in achieving a satisfying and rewarding experience.

"Thank you so much for assisting us with our first birth experience. We can't even begin to express how much it meant to us to have you there. It brought great comfort to both of us having someone with us who knows about the birth experience. Your presence brought me peace of mind, knowing you were watching out for me, keeping an eye on the equipment, asking the nurse important questions, helping Phil, running around and offering gentle support the whole time. I would be honored to have you help us again if we ever have another! Thank you again!!" -- C.
